# Registry Usage

> How to use RFFL registries safely when answering lookup questions.

Registries are the source of truth for stable identifiers. Use them before answering questions about owners, teams, aliases, divisions, and display names.

## Lookup Workflow

| Step | Action                                                       |
| ---- | ------------------------------------------------------------ |
| 1    | Identify the season year                                     |
| 2    | Resolve any alias to a canonical team code                   |
| 3    | Use the team registry for ownership and participation        |
| 4    | Use the division registry for division code and display name |
| 5    | State source boundaries if a fact is missing                 |

## Do Not Infer

Do not infer owner history from team names, division names from ESPN IDs, or franchise continuity from aliases. Resolve the identifier first, then answer.
