# Draft & Keepers

> RFFL draft format, lottery, slot selection, keeper declarations, and timeout rule.

The RFFL draft process combines a 16-round snake draft, a draft lottery, draft slot selection, keeper declarations, and division assignment through chosen draft slot.

## Current Draft Process

| Step                | Rule summary                                                 |
| ------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Draft lottery       | Determines choice order for slot selection                   |
| Slot selection      | Each team chooses a Round 1 draft position                   |
| Keeper declaration  | Keeper decisions are made during the slot-selection window   |
| Division assignment | Selected draft slot assigns the team to a division           |
| Draft event         | Live ESPN draft room, with in-person or remote participation |

## Timeout Rule

If a team misses its 24-hour slot and keeper selection window, the team drops to the bottom of the slot-selection list and may choose only from remaining slots.

This rule was adopted in 2016 and is indexed as the Draft Slot Selection Timeout Rule.
