# Documentation Standards

> RFFL document control, taxonomy, naming, lifecycle, authority, and writing standards.

The RFFL documentation standards define how source files are named, classified, reviewed, and published.

## Core Standards

| Area | Rule family |
| ----------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Document Control Block | Required metadata and authority fields |
| Domain taxonomy | Folder and document type classification |
| File naming | Relationship between `doc_id` and filename |
| Versioning | CalVer for governance documents and semantic versioning elsewhere |
| Lifecycle | draft, provisional, validated, canonical, and related states |
| Writing standards | Formal rulebook style and concise reference style |
| Placeholder conventions | Explicit gap markers instead of invented facts |

## Publishing Rule

Raw source files stay in the repository as canonical evidence. Public Mintlify pages are curated `.mdx` pages that summarize and point back to source paths.
